Forbion raised €2.3 billion ($2.6 billion) across its latest fundraising, marking the largest raise in the firm’s history and one of the largest global life sciences venture capital fundraisings over the past five years.
The fundraising substantially exceeded its target, strengthening Forbion’s position as Europe’s largest dedicated life sciences venture capital firm, with approximately €7.5 billion in assets under management.
The capital will be deployed through Forbion Growth Opportunities Fund IV and Forbion Ventures Fund VIII, which together can finance approximately 30 high-potential portfolio companies. The first investments have already been completed.
Investors included MN, PGGM, KfW Capital, Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and Eli Lilly and Company Company, alongside broad participation from existing and new investors.
Sander Slootweg, Managing Partner and Co-Founder, said the fundraising provides significant dry powder in a market facing a general shortage of capital, enabling Forbion to invest in biotech companies developing transformative treatments for unmet medical needs.
Robbert van de Griendt, General Partner, Investor Relations and Impact, said the successful raise in a challenging market reflects investor confidence in Forbion’s track record of deploying capital and generating impactful returns.
Founded more than 20 years ago, Forbion has financed 142 companies, including 37 it created.
Its portfolio companies have delivered 21 approved medical products, benefiting more than 1.6 million patients worldwide.
